About this item

Frances and Mary Allen of Deerfield, Massachusetts, took this photograph of Williams Stebbins, also of Deerfield.  The sisters specialized in portraits and, inspired the Colonial Revival taking place at the time, they also enjoyed creating historical tableaux.  They worked at a time when few women were photographers and fewer created artistic images.
