About this item

Seated in a Deerfield-style chair of the early 19th century, this young girl has prepared a tea for her doll, seated opposite. Children of Deerfield, Massachusetts, were among the favorite subjects of Frances and Mary Allen, photographers in that town for 35 years, from 1885 to 1920. The sisters have caught the young hostess in the act of pouring tea for her guest, her doll, who is sitting properly in a child’s highchair.
