About this item

This was the wedding gown of Julia Guilford of South Ashfield, Massachusetts. In 1865, she married Civil War Captain Lyman Whitney Williams of Williamsburg, Massachusetts. Although the skirt has been altered, it still retains much of the fullness it would have had. White wedding gowns were not in use until later in the 19th century.
