About this item

This stereoscope picture of the Turners Fall dam and canal was taken just before the 1798 dam was entirely rebuilt in 1869. It was constructed at the site of a waterfall on the Connecticut River in Western Massachusetts and generated power for factories on both sides of the river in Greenfield and Turners Falls.
