About this item

This leather pocketbook, or wallet, was used for money or personal papers. It was made at the Arms Manufacturing Company in South Deerfield, Massachusetts. The company was founded by Dennis Arms in 1845, with three employees and by the 1880s, it employed more than fifty men and women. The Arms Company had a reputation for fine workmanship and produced, in addition to pocketbooks, billbooks, letter books, and card cases, all made of leather.
