About this item

Full of good humor, this letter from a son to his father tells of his early days in the Marine Corps soon after the United States entered World War I. He reassures his parents that there is no cause for worry yet, as he expects to be in this country at least until the following November. Tom Ashley was a graduate of Deerfield Academy and of Amherst College (class of 1916), both in Massachusetts, and spent his life on the Ashley farm at the north end of the Deerfield street.
