About this item

Following Shays’ Rebellion (August 1786-February 1787) the men who had fought against the Massachusetts government were ordered to relinquish their firearms by “order of government.” Colonel Joseph Stebbins (1749-1816) of Deerfield, Massachusetts, was the officer in charge of collecting firearms in the town.
