About this item

When The Silk Culturist manual was published in 1839, the silk industry in New England was at its height.  This manual offered information and advice to a national audience on gowing mulberry trees and raising silkworms. The New England industry was doomed however, and by 1844, it had failed due to a series of severely cold winters followed by a blight that killed most of the mulberry trees.
