Frances Wells (ca. 1805-1882) married Isaac Miles (1808-1869) in 1840. He was in partnership with Joel Lyons (1813-1893) and they made cabinets, coffins, and furniture in Greenfield, Massachusetts. Frances made the shrouds, robes, stocks, and coffin linings for the firm and kept her own daybook of accounts. The firm paid her in cash.
