About this item

Cynthia (Williams) Leffingwell married an older man with an established family and moved from Deerfield, Massachusetts, to Norwich, Connecticut. She was the sister of William Stoddard Williams. In this letter to her younger sister, Cynthia inquires of the goings-on in Deerfield, particularly relating to the activities resulting from Shays’ Rebellion. She has been reading the newspaper, probably has seen accounts of fighting, and hopes that her friends and family in Deerfield are not involved.
