To accommodate the creation of the Quabbin reservoir, four Massachusetts towns (Dana, Enfield, Prescott, and Greenwich) and associated villages were destroyed. In areas to be flooded, buildings were demolished or moved, timber was harvested, and grave sites were moved as well, leaving nothing left behind. Some buildings were placed in the Storrowton open-air museum on the Eastern States Exposition grounds in West Springfield, Massachusetts.
