About this item

This is a copy of a letter that George Washington wrote to a man in Dublin, Ireland. Washington says that he is honored that the Irish gentleman’s son was named for him. Washington also acknowledges a gift of linen fabric.  The fact that the newspaper printed this copy of a letter from George Washington shows how revered he was after the Revolutionary War ended.
