About this item

This advertisement, placed in a Greenfield, Massachusetts, newspaper at the height of the influenza epidemic of 1918, claims that a 35-cent purchase of Germifume could prevent one from contracting influenza. It was intended to be sprayed on a handkerchief and held over the nose when the user was in public spaces. Since the epidemic killed 45,000 people in Massachusetts, it is doubtful that this product was very effective.
