The VT is a miniature radar set and was utilized to detonate artillery and anti-aircraft projectiles in close proximity to the target. It was produced during World War II (WWII) by the Raytheon Manufacturing Company, parts of which were made in the Greenfield, Massachusetts plant. This technology was considered the third most critical secret program of WWII and dramatically tipped the advantage to the U. S. during the war.
