About this item

Williamsburg, Massachusetts, was incorporated as a town in 1775. This picture of Main Street shows 19th century buildings and an unpaved roadway. The road would become Massachusetts Route 9 and during the early days of travel by automobile, it would become a popular route for tourists from the Connecticut River Valley on their way to the Berkshire Mountains.
