About this item

This cup from the Pacific Northwest, was collected by a traveler who was probably associated with Deerfield Academy in Deerfield, Massachusetts.  The cup was part of a collection of artifacts, or “curiosities” from around the world and in the 19th century, academies and private libraries often exhibited such collections.  The cup and other curiosities were transferred from the academy to the Poumtuck Valley Memorial Association’s Memorial Hall Museum in Deerfield in 1877, when PVMA acquired the building.
