Teaching Plan

  1. In a previous lesson students will learn about geometry and the specifics to this lesson.
  2. Students will view this digital collection and discuss the different geometric shapes, line segments, and angles.
  3. Students will then be presented with printouts of the houses and buildings. They will identify the squares, rectangles, triangles, and cylinders using a different color highlighter for each shape.
  4. Then they will use a red marker to identify parallel lines and perpendicular lines.
  5. Students will use a black marker to identify angles on the roof and stairs.
  6. As a follow up students will take a walking field trip using buildings and houses in their community to identify geometric shapes, line segments, and angles.
