Students notice the features around where they live but may not have ever thought about why the towns, villages, or cities were settled or exist in that location. In this lesson, students will analyze the advantages and disadvantages of a location by looking at the Indigenous people’s homelands and English settlements at Pocumtuck/Deerfield in Western Massachusetts and connecting that to the communities they currently live in.
