About this item

George Fuller (1822-1884) was the most famous of the prominent Fuller family of artists that lived and worked in Deerfield, Massachusetts. This scene shows an idealized view of a bend of the Deerfield River near the family’s home in “The Bars” section of town. A grist mill is pictured. When he painted this landscape, Fuller lived in New York City, but summered in Deerfield. He returned to home to run the family farm after the 1859 death of his father.
