George Fuller (1822-1884) was 61 years old when Boston, Massachusetts, photographers Allen & Rowell took this studio portrait. A Deerfield, Massachusetts, farmer with a lifelong passion for painting, Fuller attained a national reputation as a painter. By 1876, he had mounted an exhibition of his work in Boston and in 1880, was elected a member of the Society of American Artists. Fuller was at the height of his career as an artist when he died in 1884.
