George Fuller (1822-1884) had attained a national reputation as a painter by the time this photograph was taken by Boston, Massachusetts, photographers, Allen and Rowell. Fuller was 61 years old when this photograph was taken. He was a farmer in Deerfield, Massachusetts, with a lifelong passion for painting. By 1876, he had mounted an exhibition of his work in Boston and in 1880, was elected a member of the Society of American Artists. At the time of his death in 1884, he was at the height of his career as an artist.
