About this item

This bill is for supplies, horse, and sleigh that Aaron Marsh of Deerfield, Massachusetts needed to procure for the soldiers who participated in Shays’ Rebellion (August 1786-Februry 1787).  Following the Revolutionary War, many Massachusetts farmers were in debt and lost their property because they could not pay the new taxes instituted by the Commonwealth.  Daniel Shays of Pelham and his Regulators led the revolt, which included an ill-fated attack on the aresenal at Springfield, Massachusetts.
