About this item

It is not known when Daniel Shays came tolive in Pelham, Massachusetts, but he was there by the time of the 1775 Lexington Alarm during the Rvolutionary War. The war left many farmers destitute and unable to pay the newly instituted state taxes. In 1786 and early 1787, Daniel Shays led a group of tax resisters in what became known as Shays’ Rebellion (August 1786-February 1787.)
