About this item

A foot stove, or foot warmer, allowed the user to carry heat to other spaces with little or no heat, such as a meetinghouse. The door opens to reveal an iron box which held hot coals and the tin walls and top are perforated to allow the heat to escape. This foot warmer is marked “SP” on the rim, probably indicating the initials of the owner. The round shape is unusual as foot stoves were commonly square.
