About this item

Foot stoves, or foot warmers, like this one made of metal and wood, were handy to warm one’s feet in a cold corner of a room or in a pew in the unheated meetinghouse. The coals, stored in the iron box in the center, and accessible through the pierced door, would need to be replaced periodically to insure continued warmth. The decorative holes allowed the heat to be distributed.
