“Lilla,” was made about 1863, probably in Germany, and was owned by Mary Ella Childs (1854-1942) of Deerfield, Massachusetts. Lilla is dressed in the height of fashion for the mid-19th century in a dotted-Swiss dress with full skirt and sleeves and with pantaloons ruffling over her red leather shoes. Although her head and shoulders are made of porcelain, her body is cloth, and her limbs are of leather.
