About this item

This outfit is believed to have been worn by George H. Sumner (1870-1946) of Roxbury, Vermont, who later moved to Deerfield, Massachusetts.   For many years very young boys wore dresses until they were old enough to keep themselves cleaner.  Then they were “breeched”, meaning they were allowed to graduate to wearing breeches (pants).
