About this item

The Deerfield Basket Makers of Deerfield, Massachusetts, were active during the national Arts and Crafts Movement (1875-1920) when an increasingly industrialized world led many to prefer handmade items over those mass-produced. This photograph appeared in an article by Minnie J. Reynolds- “A Revival of Feminine Handcrafts,” in a July, 1902, issue of Everybody’s Magazine. The Deerfield Basket Makers used palm leaves, reeds, pine needles, and willow. They exhibited and sold their work under the auspices of the Deerfield Industries.
