This house was in North Dana, Massachusetts. In 1938, four towns in the Swift River Valley- Dana, Prescott, Enfield, and Greenwich- were destroyed so the valley could be flooded to create the Quabbin Reservoir which, to this day, provides drinking water for the Boston area.  North Dana was on a hill above the valley, but was razed because it was within the reservoir zone.  Today, the area is open fo hiking and biking and the town’s cellar holes, including the Witt residence, can be explored.  Witt had a dry goods store on the street level of his home.
