West Pelham, Massachusetts, was the site of the Orient Springs health resort and the first factory to produce bamboo fly fishing rods in the United States. The mineral springs drew both locals and visitors. In 1861, a large hotel was built on the site that lasted until 1881, when it burned to the ground. In spite of the popularity of the springs, they were never a financial success.
