About this item

James Avery of Buckland, Massachusetts, toured his huge oxen around the United States. Here, they were featured at New York City’s Harlem River Park.  Avery specialized in breeding giant oxen and from 1894 to 1906, he toured them around the country.  He set up a tent at agricultural fairs and charged admission for the public to enter and see his oxen.
