About this item

This is a daybook, or “waste book” for Orlando Ware, who ran a store in Deerfield, Massachusetts. The date appears at the top of the page and all the transactions with customers, both debit and credit, are recorded for that day.  Later, the information would be transferred to an account book, organized by customer. On the left-hand, or “debit” page of a customer’s record would be listed the items purchased with their values.  The right-hand, or “credit” page would list methods of payment- cash, goods, or labor.
