George Fuller (1822-1884) attained a national reputation as a painter, but as a young man he had worked in a shoe store, a grocery store, and on his father’s farm. Pursuing life as an artist, he studied in Albany and maintained studios in Boston and New York in the 1840s and 50s. Following his father’s death in 1859, he returned to Deerfield, Massachusetts, to assume full responsibility for the family farm. He exhibited his work in Boston in 1786 as he continued to run the farm. George Fuller died at age 62 at the height of his career.
