About this item

John Hawks (1643-circa 1721) of Deerfield, Massachusetts, was in debt to John Pynchon of Springfield for twelve pounds.  If the debt was paid before March 26, 1700, it was only six pounds. Hawks paid on May 17, 1714, to the estate of  Pynchon, who had died in 1702.  The estate’s administrator declared that the “full Sum of Six pounds” had been accepted, even though Hawks paid years after the March 1700 date.
