About this item

Orlando Ware (1779-1860) rented a large house in Deerfield, Massachusetts, from Ebenezer Hinsdale Williams. In 1807, he sublet the north part of that house to Hosea Hildreth (1782-1835) who had come to Deerfield to serve as preceptor of Deerfield Academy. The rent for the year was $36.00. This document describes the spaces being rented and helps us to recreate the interior of the dwelling as well as to be able to envision the outbuildings and gardens.
