The Lee Brothers Company manufactured shoes in Athol, Massachusetts. It was founded in 1861, by Merritt Lafayette Lee and was originally named M. L. Lee & Co. Athol had many industries at the end of the 19th century because it is situated on the Millers River, which provided the needed waterpower.
