About this item

This spoon was among the objects transferred in 1877, from Deerfield Academy to the Pocumtuck Valley Memorial Association, both located in Deerfield, Massachusetts. The spoon is made from a mountain goat horn.  Deerfield Academy was established in June 1797, and included a “cabinet of curiosities”, as did a number of New England academies and libraries. These collections were comprised of exotic and curious items that travelers and seamen brought back from their journeys to far-off locations.
