Scouting for boys was created in the United States in 1910, by William Boyce, a publisher in Chicago, Illinois. It had been created about two years earlier in England by Gen. Robert Baden-Powell. The American organization’s first publication, A Handbook of Woodcraft, Scouting, and Life-craft, was first published in 1910. The Boy Scouts Year Book followed in 1915, and was a compilation of stories and amusements for boys that featured popular writers and illustrators.
