The supple branches of willow trees can made into whistles. The boy on the left uses a pocket knife to carve his whistle.  This photo was taken by Frances and Mary Allen of Deerfield, Massachusetts, who specialized in creating nostalgic images from bygone times.  They were active from 1885-1920.
