About this item

Lucinda Nims (1784-1857) of Deerfield, Massachusetts, was the oldest of the six surviving children of Seth and Electa (Arms) Nims. Her father left her his house when he died in 1831, “so long as she remained unmarried.” In her will Lucinda assigned bequests of cash to her siblings and to their children. Her mother was given a share of the house to live in until she died, and the remainder of her estate Lucinda Nims left to the husband of her next younger sister, following the usual custom of leaving real estate to male family members.
